Admin Areas and Compulsory Registration Dates for England & Wales
All of England and Wales is now covered by compulsory registration provisions although the trigger date varied from area to area. Whenever a property changed hands for value after the compulsory registration date, then by law it had to be registered at HM Land Registry. Below are the administrative areas in England and Wales showing the date that compulsory registration was first introduced. If the land of interest is found to be 'unregistered' the assumption is that the property has not changed hands for value since that date. Recent changes to legislation provides that any sale, gift or first mortgage of property will also trigger compulsory registration. NOTE: Where there have been local authority boundary changes, parts of the area may have become subject to compulsory provisions at an earlier date.
